Periimplantitis

Periimplantitis is inflammation around the neck of the implant, caused by bacteria that accumulate, form the so-called biofilms. Inflammation, untreated, can disintegrate the dental implant, i.e. its loss. Periimplantitis is currently one of the basic threats to modern implantology.

Causes of periimplantitis

The results of many years of research on inflammation around the implant indicate the main causes of periimplantitis, which are:

  • poor oral hygiene,
  • occlusion disorders,
  • general diseases affecting the healing process (including diabetes and osteoporosis),
  • stress,
  • genetic factors,
  • smoking cigarettes (nicotinism)
  • inflammation of the gingival pockets around the teeth own patient.

Smokers and other high-risk groups.

Smoking, diabetes or osteoporosis increase the risk of periimplantitis. Studies have shown that the nicotine contained in tobacco products causes tissue ischemia or tissue anemiasis.

As a result, the implanted implant becomes slower, the processes of osteointegration or implant connection with the patient’s bone are slowed down. Smoking also changes the oral cavity microflora leading to anaerobic bacteria growth and increased bacterial activity responsible for periimplantitis.

These unfavorable processes may lead to the loss of the implant or its disintegration. That is why the use of BIOACTIVE HYBRID IMPLANTS, which, due to the use of two different surfaces and hyaluronic acid, limits the occurrence of periimplantitis, is recommended for people at higher risk.

Periimplantitis treatment

The activities carried out by expert scientists and practitioners of the National Association of Surgery and Dental Implant Therapy (EDI OSIS) are focused on leveling the adverse effect of inflammation.

Scientists such as prof. M. Simion, Massimo / Benigni, Marco / Hezaimi, Khalid Al / Kim, David M. conduct intensive research and observations on the process of combining the implant with the so-called bone. TO BEAT. It turns out that most of the currently used implants with a rough surface is conducive to the formation of bacteria. The results of the research allowed iRES to produce a new generation of implants – HYBRID IMPLANTS that minimize the effect of perimplantitis.

Therefore, hybrid implants were the only ones to receive EDI OSIS recommendations.
